Beyond Natural: The Evolving Standards for Cleaner Skin and Hair Care

Beyond Natural: The Evolving Standards for Cleaner Skin and Hair Care
The beauty industry has entered a new chapter. “Natural” was yesterday’s benchmark. Tomorrow’s leaders will be defined by a multidimensional standard of cleaner products: safe, ethical, effective, and sustainable. For the brands and the manufacturing partners behind them, this shift is reshaping product innovation, consumer expectations, and the global supply chain. NourishUs Naturals, a premium naturally derived skin and hair care manufacturer, reflects how wholesale skincare suppliers are adapting to this demand, helping beauty brands deliver products that meet today’s higher expectations. What’s Pushing the Shift Toward Cleaner Beauty A number of powerful trend drivers are converging to raise the bar for what consumers, regulators, and brands consider cleaner in skin and hair care. Carbon footprint and sustainability. Consumers are increasingly focused on the environmental cost of their routines. A jar of moisturizer or a bottle of shampoo is no longer judged solely by the ingredients inside. Packaging, shipping logistics, and manufacturing practices are part of the equation. Wholesale skincare and spa product offerings are being scrutinized for waste reduction and measurable climate impact. Wellness-focused Gen Z and Gen Alpha. Younger generations see beauty as part of a broader self-care and wellness routine. McKinsey reported, as part of its Future of Wellness 2025 report, that these consumers connect skincare and hair care choices to mental health, lifestyle identity, and long-term well-being. They are less swayed by buzzwords and more attuned to whether products align with holistic values. The tween skincare craze. Appropriate skincare formulations vary by age, and the growing popularity of advanced routines among tweens has sparked parental concerns about safety and necessity. Retailers have reported spikes in sales to very young customers, fueling debate about whether products meant for adults should be marketed to children. Transparency in allergen awareness. Fragrance-free claims are commonly misunderstood, with many consumers unclear on the difference between unscented and fragrance-free. This lack of clarity highlights why ingredient labeling and customer education are critical to trust-building. Regulatory frameworks add to the complexity. The FDA does not require pre-market approval for cosmetics and has limited authority around allergen labeling, while the European Union mandates disclosure of 26 allergenic compounds. For brands that sell internationally, aligning with the stricter EU standard has become a marker of responsibility and leadership. How Brands Are Moving Beyond Buzzwords Cleaner beauty has moved beyond vague terms like “pure” or “natural.” Consumers expect transparency, ethics, and proof of efficacy. Ingredient lists that are readable, sourcing that is responsible, and results that are demonstrable now carry more weight than sweeping marketing claims. Brands are leaning into education to stand out. Fragrance-free claims are one example of where guidance is essential. Customers who understand how allergens are addressed in formulations are more likely to remain loyal. Similarly, wholesale body care products, wholesale hair care products, and bulk skincare products now compete not only on price and variety, but also on traceability and sustainability. Why Manufacturing Matters More Than Ever Behind the scenes, wholesale skincare suppliers are shaping how quickly brands can adapt to rising standards. Manufacturers have evolved into strategic partners who not only produce at scale, but also help brands balance speed, cost, and sustainability. Brands must weigh ingredient sustainability against cost, driving innovation in sourcing and production methods to deliver value without compromise. This is especially important as tariffs, inflation, and supply chain volatility continue to pressure pricing. Wholesale bath and body products and bulk hair care products are expected to be both ethically sourced and competitively priced, a dual expectation that requires new levels of agility. For many companies, the role of a skincare wholesaler is shifting from transactional to consultative. By working closely with partners, brands can experiment with new formulations, respond to consumer trends faster, and bring safer, more effective products to market without losing sight of financial realities. The Industry Shift Toward Trusted Partnerships Today, consumer brands are leaning on trusted manufacturing partners to innovate responsibly. By sourcing wholesale naturally derived skincare products or wholesale natural bath and body products, they can introduce formulations that align with evolving expectations for transparency, sustainability, and safety. This trend reflects a larger movement across the industry: manufacturers are enabling brands to stay competitive in a marketplace where consumer scrutiny is sharper than ever. Partnerships built on trust, knowledge-sharing, and shared values are becoming as important as marketing strategies or retail placement. Cleaner as the New Standard The conversation around beauty has moved decisively beyond natural. In its place is a broader, multidimensional expectation of cleaner: products that are safe, transparent, effective, and environmentally responsible. For brands, success depends on demonstrating how these values are embedded across the product lifecycle. For wholesale skincare suppliers, it requires innovating with the same creativity and rigor that consumer brands bring to product design and storytelling. As generational shifts, regulatory scrutiny, and sustainability pressures converge, cleaner is becoming the baseline standard across every category, from wholesale skincare products to spa products wholesale to bulk bath and body products. The future will be defined not just by what is left out of formulations, but by how the entire industry comes together to build trust at every step.

Essential Labs Scenting Guide

NourishUs Naturals Scenting Guide
If you are new to scenting, we have established clear and effective guidelines for scenting products with essential or fragrance oils. Consider implementing these recommendations to elevate the quality of your scented products and ensure they meet the highest standards! Click Here to Explore The NourishUs Naturals Scenting Guide. Category-Specific Insights: Lotions & Creams (Face):0.2–1.0% - Keep closer to 0.2–0.5% for face products to minimize potential irritation. Lotions & Creams (Body):0.25–2.0% - For body creams where the skin is less sensitive than the face. Stick to the lower range for sensitive skin areas. Shampoos, Gels, Household & Laundry:0.25–1.5% - The lower range is ideal for hair/scalp products, while the upper range can be used for household products. Conditioners:0.5–1.0% - Make sure to disperse properly for even application on hair. Astringents, Toners & Splashes:0.25–0.75% - Use the lower range for facial products as astringents are often alcohol-based and can enhance penetration. Melt & Pour Soap:0.5–2.5% - Please note that resinous oils can darken soap or create sticky textures, so test smaller batches first. Melt & Pour Lip Balm:0.25–1.5% - A higher percentage may be able to be used, but there is a risk of ingestion-related irritation. Melt & Pour Deodorant:0.25–1.25% - Higher percentages might affect skin comfort in the underarm area. Scrubs & Polishes:0.25–3.0% - Slightly higher percentages are typically fine, as rinsing minimizes prolonged contact. Massage & Body Oils:1.0–3.0% - Suitable due to dilution with carrier oils. Serums:0.25–1.0% - Lower percentages are best, especially if serums are for targeted areas like the face. Gels/Jellies:0.25–1.0% - Works well but ensure a solubilizer is used for water-based products. Masks:0.25–1.0% - Range has taken into account that masks are short-contact products. Bath Salts & Powders:0.25–1.5% - Essential oils will dilute further in bathwater. Children's Products (Over Age 3):0.2–1.0% - Stick to the lower end for children and avoid using sensitizing oils (e.g., benzoin may cause allergies in some individuals). General Considerations: Patch Test: Always perform a patch test when introducing any new product, especially one containing essential oils. This helps to ensure that the skin does not react negatively. Regulatory Compliance: Check IFRA standards for each oil to ensure compliance, especially for leave-on products. Also, please check with your local regulatory offices as these vary by location. Skin Sensitivity: Resinous essential oils can cause sensitivity or allergies, especially in facial products. Woody essential oils are generally well-tolerated, but Pine and Juniper Berry may be sensitizing for some people. Earthy oils like Valerian and Angelica may cause sensitivity, particularly in leave-on products. Always perform a patch test on new formulations. Aroma Intensity: Woody oils can have strong and lingering aromas; consider this when creating formulations meant for subtle scents (e.g., facial products). Same thing with Earthy oils like Vetiver and Patchouli. Phototoxicity: Angelica root oil can be phototoxic. Ensure it's either steam-distilled or used below safe concentrations in products exposed to sunlight. Solubility: Ensure the essential oils are properly emulsified or solubilized, as they are oil-soluble and may separate in water-based formulations without proper dispersants. Scenting Secrets of an Aromatherapist Knowing how much of an essential oil or essential oil blend to add to your product is both science and art, and is very personal. A medium scent for one person might be a heavy scent for another person. Using essential oils to scent your skin and body care products is the simplest way to make them your own. It’s also a great way to extend your product offerings by changing the essential oil blend in a best-selling base. For example, you can start with our Thick Shampoo & Body Wash and market to men by adding either the Citrus Burst Essential Oil Blend with lemon and lime and grapefruit, or the Warm Cedar Breeze Essential Oil Blend with cedarwood, juniper berry, and frankincense essential oils.  If you’ve never dipped your toe in scenting or aromatherapy before, you might feel a little intimidated. But don’t worry. So long as you start with a few drops, you can always add more. Pro-Tips for Using Essential Oils to Scent Start with a portion of your baseIt’s best to start scenting with a portion of your base so you can get an idea of how strong you will want the final product. It’s easier to add more scent than it is to remove it. Scent with dropsWhile it is absolutely accurate to measure by weight or by volume of your essential oil, you can also add scents by drops. This allows you to smell as you go and adjust slowly until you are satisfied. For instance, if you want to scent a 12 oz container of lotion with .5% concentration of Lavender Essential Oil you will want to add .06 oz of Lavender Essential Oil or 35 drops of Lavender Essential Oil. Use a warm water bath to loosen up non-liquid bases, such as Virgin Coconut Oil or Barrier Balm, which are solid at room temperature. As it loosens, we recommend whisking it in a folding motion to help it become softer. Then add the drops and whisk it well to disperse the scents evenly. Use plastic pipettes, and use a new one for each essential oil. We know glass pipettes are more environmentally friendly, but the truth is, it is so easy to dip a used pipette into the wrong essential oil and then you’ve got an adulterated oil that can’t be used. For larger sizes weight becomes the easier measurement. For example, if you have 10 pounds of a shampoo you’d like to scent with 2% Lavender Essential Oil, the math becomes easier, especially if you have a good scale at hand. In this instance you would want to add an empty container to your scale and then tare (zero out) the scale. Pour in 0.2 pounds of your essential oil. Then add that to your larger container of shampoo and mix thoroughly. Keep notes while you are creating. It is vital for a consistent product, especially when sizing up to larger batches. How to Add Less than a Drop Sometimes, when you calculate from weight and volume to drops, you end up needing less than a full drop. And while that sounds, and is tricky, one way we recommend doing this is to fill the pipette, then squeeze out most of the oil back into the original essential oil bottle, leaving just a trace in the pipette. These last few ‘drops’ are actually smaller than the full-size drops created when a pipette is full. Squeeze carefully and you have ‘less than’ a drop. Some schools of thought recommend diluting the essential oil in water, but we don’t recommend it. You can always figure out your own methodology once you get more practice and confidence under your belt. Example: How to Add Scent to a Dry Product – Goat Milk Bath Soak In the video below, you will see one of our previous formulators is adding 1% of essential oils to a dry product: Goat Milk Bath Soak. She adds her bowl to the scale, tares it, adds her essential oil, and then simply whisks it in with the powder soak. It may seem counterintuitive to add oils to a powder, but when thoroughly mixed there is no clumping. Watch along here: Conclusion: Scenting with Essential Oils Scenting with natural and synthetic oils are a great way to extend your product offerings and introduce aromatherapy into your skincare and body care lines. This can be a really fun part of the process when simplified, we hope our guidelines and tips serve you well. Good luck!

Sourcing Sustainable Salt

Sourcing Sustainable Salt
NourishUs Naturals might have what some would consider “expensive” salt, but we have a very good reason for it. We purchase from USA-based manufacturers, who source from the purest of water sources, focusing on sustainable harvesting practices, packaging and delivery. This not only ensures the highest quality of salt but also contributes to the preservation of our environment. We believe in supporting local USA businesses wherever possible. Even if the raw ingredients themselves need to be sourced from international lands or waters, having the final manufacturing process here in the USA allows us to scrutinize and perfect every step to ensure that clean and pure ingredients are delivered to our customers. Himalayan Salts An example of NourishUs Naturals' ultimate choice in salt suppliers is evident in the exceptional Himalayan salts, regardless of the grade. These salts are not just any Himalayan salts; they are sourced from ancient seabeds in the Himalayan Mountains that existed and crystallized before modern-day pollutants came into play. They are then carefully and sustainably harvested and cleaned with precision and care, ensuring all minerals remain intact. This unique process ensures that our salts are not only of the highest quality but also free from modern-day pollutants. However, it’s not just the Himalayan salts that receive care; with all details continuously striving for perfection, the supplier uses proprietary processes that not only maintain the inherent mineral content of all natural salts but also guarantee cleanliness, purity, and the best quality available. High purity sodium chloride is refined and recrystallized using large scale, energy efficient vacuum pan evaporation which maximizes salt recovery and minimizes waste. This method produces a salt structure that enhances flow, blendability and liquid absorption meaning manufacturers need fewer anti-caking or flow agent chemicals in end products.   Energy-efficient production, environmental stewardship, safety and corporate sustainability commitments aligned with top notch quality and consistency Its excellent absorption properties keep fragrances and essential oils locked in your bath products and releases them more evenly in the water. Why Partner With Us?
Those in the beauty industry know that consumer demand for natural products is growing day by day. We are experienced natural beauty creators, using responsibly grown and naturally derived ingredients wherever possible and making science-based decisions when crafting formulas to ensure a stable, competitive final product. Our products are also cruelty free and made with sustainability in mind, so both you and your customers can feel good about your purchases. Plus, our stock products are available directly to the public, making us a great partner for small businesses while being readily equipped to support you as your company grows. Quality Every company has their own definition of quality, but as a skincare manufacturer, quality is our most important business practice. So what does “quality” mean to NourishUs Naturals?  Product Development At NourishUs Naturals, we believe great products come from great partnerships.  That’s why we’ve created a clear, collaborative development process that blends thoughtful research, innovative science, and genuine care. We start by listening to customers, trends, and what’s new in “natural” sciences. From there, we explore innovative botanical ingredients and craft purposeful product ideas that fit real needs and real routines. Then our in-house lab brings those ideas to life. Our formulators and chemists test, tweak, and refine until the formula performs beautifully and feels great to use. After that we share early prototypes with our employees and their families for real-world feedback which helps us fine-tune texture, scent, and performance before moving forward. After the products are approved by our volunteer network, each formula goes through rigorous safety and quality checks, including independent third-party lab testing, to ensure it’s safe, effective, and ready for production. Once everything’s perfected, and after we have scaled up the product successfully with larger batch sizes in production, we can then rest assured that NourishUs Naturals delivers reliable, high-quality products that live up to our shared standards. Ingredient Sourcing We source from vendors we trust and require supporting documentation on every item we bring into our facility such as, Certificates of Analysis, Safety Data Sheets, Technical Specification, and so much more on any ingredients provided.  We carefully monitor our ingredient inventory by lot number, bin location, and expiry date so that when we’re ready to batch fresh products, we know they are made from fresh, responsibly sourced ingredients from around the world. For us, that’s where quality assurance begins.  Testing We test every production batch to verify consistency in color, viscosity, scent, pH and of course, to ensure the product is free from microbial bacteria, yeast, and mold. We store all test results electronically and can create a Certificate of Analysis on any of our products or ingredients upon request, as well as Safety Data Sheets. This way, you can rest assured that all products that have left our facility are safe for use.  Batching Quality is also built into our batch sizes. We batch small because naturally derived ingredients typically have shorter shelf lives than most synthetic ingredients.  We don’t want your products sitting on our shelves for months and months before they even get to you. Know you’ll be getting the freshest product we can give you at any time.  We also batch every day, and that’s a lot to keep track of. Therefore, we retain a batch sample for every single batch we make and store and organize it by the batch’s lot code. That retention sample serves two purposes, to determine if the next batch is the same as the previous batch and if the product can hold up over time. Additionally, we will perform in-process production checks to ensure that every step of production is meeting specific criteria and our high standards. When you order your products and ingredients from NourishUs Naturals, you’re not just buying manufactured item or a raw ingredient; you’re buying confidence in the products you sell to your customers.  Manufactured Ingredients Along with using our manufactured ingredients in formulations, we also sell them directly on our website. This includes our essential oil blends, oil blends, antioxidant blend, glycolic and alpha hydroxy acid blends, which have been carefully crafted by registered aromatherapists and formulators.  Safety As a manufacturing facility, our employees come first. We work with OSHA to make sure we are compliant and that we are up to date with all regulations. Finally, besides inspecting our raw materials and facility for cleanliness and sanitation, we are constantly looking to improve our process and growing as the industry grows.  Sustainability NourishUs Naturals is committed to sustainability and innovative, alternative energy solutions.  We believe we are members of a broader community, and we want to do our part to contribute to and influence sustainable measures through the industry. These values drive our day-to-day activities and decisions.   Solar Powered Manufacturing  As you think about how to increase your sustainability footprint, using skincare made at a solar-powered manufacturing facility is one giant step you can take.  NourishUs Naturals has adopted this remarkable technology here in Portland, and our re-purposed warehouse boasts an enormous solar power array, with over 400 panels generating about 147,000 kWh a year (it covers our entire roof!).  We worked in conjunction with Oregon Energy Trust, our landlord and a host of organizations to make this possible.  We produce almost 80% of our energy needs and are happy to provide solar-powered skincare to our customers.  Sustainable Shipping Materials   We use compostable packing peanuts made from sorghum, as well as shipping boxes made from recycled material. When you see our box, and plastic bottles, feel free to reuse or recycle to keep that going! In terms of packaging, we use recycled plastic and are constantly finding and testing greener solutions that can still hold up to the volatility of essential oils.  We’re always on the lookout for new ways to keep the planet a little healthier and hope you and your customers feel great about the impact you’re making alongside us.  Responsibly Sourced Ingredients It’s not enough to simply use high quality ingredients—from the start of the supply chain to the finished product, beauty buyers care about the effect their products have on individuals and the environment. Our Ingredient Philosophy Consumers are becoming more and more likely to read ingredient lists before investing in skincare—so make a great impression on your customer with our meticulously chosen ingredients. We are a Leaping Bunny certified facility, meaning we only source cruelty free, thoroughly documented ingredients. Similarly, we strive to source the most sustainable and ethically produced ingredients possible. Our long-standing relationships with vendors ensure that we can respond nimbly to supply chain shifts and stay on the pulse of the ingredient market. When picking ingredients for our formulas, we take a variety of factors into account, including bioavailability, functionality, pricing, and, of course, quality. We use natural ingredients whenever possible, often favoring responsibly grown ingredients when they are available. When we do opt for a synthetic ingredient, it is an intentional choice, typically made to preserve the stability of a formula, or to ensure that the formula can remain vegan and cruelty free. Essential Gets Leaping Bunny Certified

NourishUs Naturals - Leaping Bunny Certified
Are you a consumer who consciously supports companies that sell ‘cruelty-free’ cosmetic products? Maybe you run your own natural & organic cosmetics company and hope to gain cruelty-free certification for your business? In either case, it is important to understand how to spot products that are affiliated with a legitimate certifying body, and how to gain a ‘cruelty-free’ certification designation for your own product line. Enter the Leaping Bunny Program, which is widely considered the highest corporate standard in certification for products by the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC) and The European Coalition to End Animal Experiments (ECEAE). Leaping Bunny connects consumers with cosmetic, personal care, and/or household products companies that do not test finished products, ingredients, or formulations on animals. According to Leaping Bunny’s website, By 1996, ‘cruelty-free’ shopping had become popular, but it was also confusing, sometimes misleading, and ultimately frustrating. Companies had begun designing their own logos to indicate that they were abiding by their own definition of ‘cruelty-free’ or ‘animal friendly’ without the participation of animal protection groups. In response, eight national animal protection groups banded together to form the Coalition for Consumer Information on Cosmetics (CCIC). The CCIC promotes a single comprehensive standard and an internationally recognized Leaping Bunny Logo. They work with companies to help make shopping for animal-friendly products easier and more trustworthy. You can learn more specifics about the Leaping Bunny Program on their website. NourishUs Naturals is proud to report that we are a Leaping Bunny certified facility! We’ve pulled together some Q&As to help you figure out what it means for us, and for you. Q: What does it mean to be Leaping Bunny Certified? What does ‘cruelty-free’ even mean? A: Leaping Bunny Certification is the gold standard for cruelty-free personal care products and is without a doubt, the most trusted and consistent cruelty-free certification available in the USA. Even though animal testing is now banned almost everywhere for cosmetics and their ingredients, some ingredients used in cosmetics are also used in other types of products. Some ingredients that are used in products other than just cosmetics may still be tested or could still be tested for other purposes like environmental toxicity. Therefore, it is important that companies apply to be Leaping Bunny certified, which will let consumers know that the company’s products or ingredients are not tested on animals regardless of international regulatory requirements. Q: Why did NourishUs Naturals choose to become a Leaping Bunny certified facility? A: Consumers of natural and organic skincare care about the environment as well as what they put on and in their bodies. NourishUs Naturals has never tested on animals, and by gaining certification from the CCIC, our customers can add the Leaping Bunny logo to their NourishUs Naturals- provided products, gaining a competitive edge in the marketplace. Q: Will you be adding the Leaping Bunny logo, and Cruelty-Free statement to all your product labels? A: Yes. You can view the Leaping Bunny logo on all product packaging that leaves our facility. Q: Can I now put the Leaping Bunny logo on my product? Can I say Cruelty-Free? A: All skincare products and ingredients you purchase from NourishUs Naturals website are eligible for the Leaping Bunny logo and the use of the words “cruelty-free,” which is a trademarked term, provided you are not adding your own ingredients to the product once you receive it from us. You can also apply for the right to use the logo on the Leaping Bunny website. Once you apply, a confirmation request is sent to us, which we complete and send back to Leaping Bunny. Please send us an email at contactus@nourishusnaturals.com as soon as you apply to let us know to expect an email from Leaping Bunny. Q: What if you are making a custom formula for me? Is my product automatically qualified as Leaping Bunny certified? A: Provided the product is made with NourishUs Naturals- supplied ingredients you can apply with Leaping Bunny for permission to use the logo on their label just as you would if you were buying stock products. If you provide any of the ingredients and want to apply for Leaping Bunny certification, you will need to provide us with non-animal testing statements from your ingredient supplier. Based on the documentation you provide, we’ll be able to determine if your product is eligible for Leaping Bunny certification. Q: How do I register my product with Leaping Bunny so I can be listed on their app and their website as a cruelty-free brand? A: You will register at http://www.leapingbunny.org/company/register. Still have questions? Email us at contactus@nourishusnaturals.com

How to Care for Your Product
Please contact customer service if you'd like a quote for a refrigerated shipment. HOT 1. Always maintain proper hygiene when handling products. Wear gloves and a hair net, and sanitize all implements and equipment used. 2. Immediately open your products to release the hot air and pressure, and stir until homogenized. 3. Dry off and clean the inside lid of your container. Use lint free cloths or paper towels with alcohol and let dry before reclosing the container. 4. Place your product in a room temperature or cooler environment for a minimum of 24 hours.   5. Once your product has cooled, reopen and stir again. 6. Pour off your products into resale or smaller storage containers. 7. Store your products in tightly sealed containers with minimum "headspace". 8. Protect your products from moisture, extreme temperatures, and direct UV light. Preferable temperature is always room temperature around 65-72F Any essential oils or Vitamin C products should be stored in opaque containers (glass for the essential oils).   COLD 1. Always maintain proper hygiene when handling products. Wear gloves and a hair net, and sanitize all implements and equipment used. 2. Immediately open your products to release the cold air and pressure. 3. Dry off and clean the inside lid of your container. Use lint free cloths or paper towels with alcohol and let dry before reclosing the container. 4. Place your product in a room temperature environment for 24-48 hours. 5. Once your products have warmed up, open and stir to ensure it's completely homogenized. 6. Pour off your products into resale or smaller storage containers. 7. Store your products in tightly sealed containers with minimum "headspace". 8. Protect your products from moisture, extreme temperatures, and direct UV light. Preferable temperature is always room temperature around 65-72F. Any essential oils or Vitamin C products should be stored in opaque containers (glass for the essential oils)   You’ll find that by following these directions, most finished products will usually balance their composition. BONUS - We use 100% sorghum starch packing peanuts which are all-natural with no toxic chemicals, easy to dispose of (please compost!), and high-humidity proof.   Why Does Temperature Affect Your Product? Why do NourishUs Naturals' emulsions viscosity change in extreme temperature fluctuations, but then resolve their viscosity once the hot or cold air has been released and the product has been placed in a room temperature environment? Why can temperature fluctuations influence the rheological behavior (how the product flows) of cosmetic emulsions, potentially causing shear-thinning effects among others? First, we think it makes sense to define Newtonian. Newtonian fluids are products that have a constant viscosity regardless of the applied shear rate (e.g., water), whereas Non-Newtonian fluids have a viscosity that changes when a force is applied. NourishUs Natural's emulsions fall into this category. This non-Newtonian property is what gives our emulsions their smooth and spreadable texture. Non-Newtonian emulsions will have certain behaviors that allow products to spread and be applied to the skin much more efficiently and provide a more luxurious feel upon application. These behaviors include the following: Shear-Thinning (Pseudoplastic): Most cosmetic emulsions exhibit this behavior. They become less viscous under shear (like when you apply and massage them onto your skin) and return to their original viscosity when the shear is removed. Shear-Thickening (Dilatant): Less common, these become more viscous under shear. We do not often experience this in our emulsions. Thixotropic: These emulsions decrease in viscosity when sheared and take a finite time to return to their original viscosity when at rest. This is why we provide information in the form of packing inserts when you receive your order. Rheopectic: This rare behavior is the opposite of thixotropy; viscosity increases with shear over time. In the same fashion of Shear-Thickening, we do not often experience this in our emulsions. Now the science behind this and if I bore you, I apologize, but isn't learning and understanding the most fun and fundamental part of life? So why does this non-Newtonian situation occur? Well for one, the internal structure of the emulsions changes under stress. For instance, the alignment of particles or structural breakdown of certain bonds can lead to varying viscosity. Extreme temperature changes can cause this molecular structure change. Some of the most common non-Newtonian products you are probably used to are ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, etc. When you squeeze these out of the container without shaking the container first, you will notice water or oils coming out first. There is a reason we shake before we squeeze. So don't worry about the viscosity change, just follow our instructions above and rest assured that the product effectively delivers the ingredients and maintains stability during use.   If you have any questions, you can always reach out to us at (866) 252-9639 or contactus@nourishusnaturals.com. We are happy to help with this or any other questions you have about your NourishUs Naturals products.
