Disperse into water phase under high shear before heating or hydrating. May be pre-blended with glycerin or another humectant to reduce clumping. Compatible with a wide pH range (3–10) and commonly used at low levels.

Option 1: Facial Gel Serum

Use at 0.2-1% in a leave-on facial gel serum as a natural rheology modifier for a smooth, stable texture. Pre-disperse in glycerin, then sprinkle into the water phase under high shear and hydrate fully. Compatible with a wide pH range of 3-10.

Option 2: Body Lotion

Incorporate at 0.2-0.5% into an oil-in-water body lotion to stabilize the emulsion and add body. It thickens strongly even at low levels, so start conservatively. Blend into the water phase and confirm a lump-free, evenly thickened result.

Option 3: Cleansing Gel

Add at 0.3-1% to a surfactant-based cleansing gel to build viscosity and suspend particles. Pre-disperse the powder in a humectant slurry to prevent clumping before adding to water. Hydrate fully and check for a smooth finish with no fisheyes.

Option 4: To Add to a Finished Base

To add xanthan gum to a finished cosmetic product, first pre-disperse the powder in a small amount of glycerin or another humectant to prevent clumping when it meets water. Slowly sprinkle this slurry into the water-based portion of the base under high shear or vigorous stirring, then blend it into the finished product and allow it to hydrate fully. Use it at a low typical level of about 0.2% to 1.0%, since it thickens strongly even in small amounts. It is compatible with a wide pH range of 3 to 10, so simply confirm the finished product is smooth and evenly thickened with no lumps or fisheyes.
