Emulsifying Wax

Incorporate into the oil phase and heat to 65–75 °C (150–170 °F) until fully melted. Combine with the heated water phase and mix until a stable emulsion is formed. Compatible with most anionic, cationic, and nonionic ingredients.

Option 1: Body Cream

Use at 3-8% in an oil-in-water body cream to build a stable, uniform emulsion with a rich, smooth texture. Melt into the oil phase at 65-75 C and combine with the heated water phase under mixing. Higher use levels within the range yield a thicker, more cushiony cream.

Option 2: Facial Lotion

Incorporate at 3-5% to emulsify a lighter, pourable facial lotion with an even, silky feel. Its nonionic nature makes it compatible with anionic, cationic, and nonionic ingredients. Mix until a stable emulsion forms, then cool with continued stirring.

Option 3: Rinse-Off Hair Conditioner

Add at 4-7% in a rinse-off conditioner to create a smooth, spreadable base that carries conditioning oils and emollients. Heat with the oil phase until fully melted before emulsifying. Adjust the level within the range to tune body and glide.

Option 4: To Add to a Finished Base

Emulsifying wax is intended to build an emulsion during manufacturing, so adding it to an already-finished product requires melting it first at 65-75 C / 150-170 F until fully liquid. Combine the melted wax with a small heated portion of the base, then stir this warm mixture back into the finished product while mixing continuously as it cools. Keep the total addition modest, generally within a 3% to 8% range of the finished emulsion, to avoid over-thickening or destabilizing the base. Mix until the product is fully uniform and smooth, then let it return to room temperature and check for consistent texture and no separation before packaging.
